So last week I had my first structure fire. It was really like a 3 ring circus, hoses and gear flying every which way. Do to limited air packs that day I ended up outside. In a way I'm thankful I did this time. I spent at least 5 minutes untangling the spaghetti mess of hoselines. For the record, I will NEVER own a house with vinyl siding and I strongly recommend none of you do either. In other news, this lightsaber duel is amusing! http://i.gizmodo.com/5203753/art-peaks-forever-as-two-chicks-lightsaber-battle-in-their-underwear-without-irony Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: March of Cambreadth |

I am really getting annoyed with ebay sellers. I have never had so much trouble as I have this week. First I pay nearly $200 for an old PRC-77 military radio. I expected to have to repair it but it was not the unit advertised. Dented and bent to hell with different markings and obviously repainted several times with less than 50% of the paint remaining and so packed with grime you would think it was fished out of a lagoon somewhere. And the ass in Greece had the audacity to claim its not his fault it got "dented in transit". WTF!? Now a US surplus seller in Georgia sells me a new woodland MOLLE 3-day assault pack, guess what came in the mail today? A new woodland 3-day assault pack in ALICE. For those of you who don't know, ALICE is the old style of military webgear, and MOLLE is the new style and worth about $30 more. These systems are not compatible. Also, does any one out there need a new whip antenna for an old PRC-10 radio? I accidently picked one up mistaking it for a PRC-77. Well I have a BBQ that needs tending to. Current Mood: annoyed |

Got out of bed this morning to go play hero. The quote of the day. "We should be able to back it out. It ran when they parked it." This was of course referencing a car halfway through the front of the store. Lots of broken glass. No one was hurt. Goodnight friends. Current Mood: happy |

Wild accusations
It has taken me a couple days to post on this. Frankly I haven't had a clue how to react. This weekend I read a report published by the Department of Homeland Security. Frankly I can't tell if it was intended to be antagonistic. Apparently being a veteran who fought for the USA is enough to be a terrorist. Regardless of the fact they put their very lives on the line for this country. I should have know that enlisting in the army was a criminal act, for shame! Also anyone with conservative political views (1st amendment), any belief of states rights (10th), or just plain owns a weapon (2nd). It really does get ridiculous and offensive at varying points. On amusing point, anyone stocking up on food and disaster supplies is obviously a terrorist. Never mind the fact that both FEMA and the DHS are still encouraging all citizens to prepared for disaster. Read it for yourself, draw your own conclusions. It annoyed me greatly and I want an apology for the gravest of charector insults and threats to my liberty. http://www.nraila.org/media/PDFs/DHSRightwingExtremismReport.pdf Current Mood: annoyed |

Woot my first fire!
I was cooking dinner and my pager went off so I donned my turnouts in record time, snagged the keys to my roommate's van a headed off to respond to my first call. It was just a little bit of grass on a street corner. I helped put out cones and block the road while one of guys that responded with the engine used a booster line to soak the corner. All told we were probably on scene 5 minutes but I feel giddy. I are mighty Lupercus see what I do. >:) Current Mood: pleased |

Yay, I can put water on fire now.
I graduated Fire Fighter I yesterday. To celebrate we did live burn training till we ran out of things to set of fire. It was good. No most of the class is going to continue to meet for the next 3 weeks so we can get international certified to beef up our resumes even though the essentials class is the minimum requirement for our department (and recognized by the university for 5 credits even). It never hurts to train more. I'll probably take Fire Fighter II in the fall semester. From the book it looks like a cake walk compared to one. They do add a few things like vehicle extractions and foam, but I get the impression it's mostly a refresher course. Current Mood: happyCurrent Music: Scotland the Brave |

The world sure has changed. I'd have never thought I'd see the changing of the guard at Buckingham done to the Star Spangled Banner. This news is of course 7 and a half years old. No body tells me nothin'. Current Mood: tired |

Well its snowing here again. Last week you would have thought spring was here. Coming up the grade friday night I think the clutch on my daily driver has seized. The good of that would be my tranny and engine would be fine. The bad however would be the inability of sais components to interface. My project vehicle, an old army 1-ton pickup is in the shop and with a prayer will be drivable this week. See, I knew I needed a spare. Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: Loch Lommond |

The New Boss
I watched Obama's Inaugural Address. The man is a very charismatic speaker and it was revitalizing to hear him speak. None the less I do not trust the man. Many of the things he wants to "change" do not sit well with me. But at the end of the day as long as I have a roof over my head, bread in my cupboard and an assault rifle over my fireplace I can survive. Current Mood: tired |

I'm amused I found a rant on YouTube that I'm in 100% agreement with. Its kinda scary really I could see myself giving the same rant word for word. P.S. As a hobbyist blacksmith I'm asking anyone with unwanted coal this year to send it to me for my birthday. ;) Serriously, what's wrong with Stille Nacht? Current Mood: happy |

*sigh* The only thing I wanted for Christmas I will be getting, but not until after Christmas I'm afraid. I spent most of the day on my back under my CUCV in the snow. It turns out I'll be getting myself a $800 present, ie a new rear axle. After that I'm still looking at $2-400 in labor for the rest of the project of getting it up and running. Assuming there's nothing else wrong that I don't know about. I realy feel bad about spending money on anything but my loved ones this time of year. Oh and for all the Fyr's in the crowd. After reading Chamberlain's accounts, I must say he truely was a both a brilliant man and a romantic idealist. I think we would have gotton along well. Its not about the turkey, its about being thankful you have one. Today is the day we should be thankful we have survived and managed to procure enough food to make it through the harsh winter months ahead. That is what today is about. In other news I did that stripey thing 'cause everyone else was... Your rainbow is strongly shaded indigo and green. What is says about you: You are a proud person. You feel strong ties to nature and your mood changes with its cycles. People are loyal to you and see you as a natural leader. Those around you admire your fresh outlook and vitality. Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.It was hard realy. There where a great many things I would rather have both than one or the othere as they were useful things in thier places. e.i. When you ask a blacksmith "Fire or Water?" you might get a blank stare as I need both. Current Mood: thankful |

Yay, Updatings,
I was voted into an engine company last night. I've been assigned some online FEMA training courses but nothing major until I take the "Firefighting Essentials" class that starts in Jan. One of the twins I served with in Iraq is in the company as is a retired Marine Colonel that celebrated his 72nd last night. Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: Drunken Sailor |

A couple awesome things have happened. Yesterday the doctor rubber stamped me as fit for duty with the fire department. Thursday the training officer will give me the department's "physical agility test". Then all I have to do is get accepted by my engine company. That should be a snap as the LT seems a good guy and I served in Iraq with one of lead guys on the team. In other news my beautiful M1008 CUCV was delivered yesterday. It has the troop carrier kit in the back minus the canopy. It needs a little work but the Alaska Guard weren't too rough on her all things considered. The Government's Acquisition price in 1986 was $31,000. I paid a very, very small fraction of that. :) Current Mood: happyCurrent Music: March of Cambreath |

The headlines in the regional paper today states that Obama plans to make a number of quick changes as soon as he's sworn in via "Executive Orders." I pray that these executive orders don't turn out to be specific abuses of power. Saddly no one can tell on that till we see just what exactly his mandates are.
